Composites
from AM Profiles for Revolving ‘Grand Designs’
House
AM Profiles has
been selected to supply high performance timber aluminium
composite curtain wall and Design-5 windows and doors for a
revolutionary house – a house that is on tracks so that the
large glazed areas can always face the sun.
The Dumble, a 10,000-sq-ft country house being built by a
successful engineer and entrepreneur is circular in
construction. It will generate all its own power, have its
own water supply and rotate on rails to track and capture
the power of the sun and wind.
To meet stringent thermal performance requirements most of
the large glazed units will be set into timber aluminium
curtain wall. This hybrid curtain wall system features
laminated timber mullions and transoms 56mm wide with the
depth variable to meet structural needs. The outside of the
faceted screens is virtually maintenance free being powder
painted aluminium. AM’s Design-5 timber aluminium composite
windows and doors are also featured on the project.
The building is so radical that it has been selected to
feature on the Channel 4 series ‘Grand Design’. The
striking modern building uses a number of ingenious and
green building techniques including walls constructed from
old car tyres.
